Where to Brunch in Union County New Jersey
[Welcome to April’s BRUNCH WITH JOVIE series where I share the best of brunch in NJ]
Brunching in Jersey is a planned effort. You don’t walk out of the house and stumble upon bottomless mimosas by chance. You might have one go to place that you’re really attached to or maybe you like to spice things up and try somewhere new. If you find yourself wondering where your next mimosa and eggs Benedict fix will come from, use this guide to find my favorite brunch spots in Union County.
If your fave didn’t make the list, shoot me an email and I’ll look into it.
460 Maple Ave. Elizabeth, NJ
Brunch at Urban Griddle is something you do when you have an open schedule and want really good food. You can expect to wait an hour and a half. It’ll be worth it if you go with the pancakes (they’re basically clouds) or the buffalo chicken omelette. I wasn’t really sure if chicken in an omelette was a thing but after trying this, I’m into it. The drinks aren’t bottomless but you can get a mimosa for $6. They also have some cool local beers on the menu.
137 Central Ave, Westfield, NJ 07090
Unfortunately, they don’t take reservations either but this is the perfect place for a family brunch. The space feels like you’re sitting in your grandma’s dining room and the service makes it feel like that too. They have locations all over Jersey and Philly, this is the only one in Union County. Some of my favorites are the chicken and waffles, the Popeye skillet and the Roadhouse bacon stack. Another major plus is that you can go here any day of the week and it’s BYOB.
Moonshine Modern Supper Club
55 Main St, Millburn, NJ 07041
While the name might make you think you’re in for super bougie dining experience, Moonshine is a chill space with a good brunch menu. It still has the sophisticated vibe without running your pockets dry. The prix fixe brunch menu comes with an appetizer, an entree and a cocktail (they’re $3 each after that).
Echo Tap Grille
1079 US-22, Mountainside, NJ 07092
Echo Tap Grille could possibly be the answer to any food situation in Union County. Want to grab a drink? Echo Tap. Want dinner? Echo Tap. They’re just as good for bunch. The restaurant sit on the border of doing too much because they offer so many different things but if you’re trying to cater to a group of different eaters, it’s ideal.
235 Elmer St, Westfield, NJ 07090
I’m honestly still not sure how to pronounce this one but Xocolatz is the place to go if you’re in the mood for a Spanish fusion brunch. It’s one of the few places in town you can show up without a reservation and still get seated pretty fast. The food is fun. There’s a good mix of simple foods and more interesting Latin dishes on the menu. It’s also BYOB.
